To my precious new baby boy Christopher Alexander Johnson,
Finding the words to express how I feel about you is not easy to do when I am sleep-deprived from our late night feedings together, and I’m sore from giving birth, and I’m in awe from the overwhelming emotion of getting to know and be with you these past few days, but l am going to try.
You are a perfect, healthy, little angel! I could spend every second smelling your baby scent, touching your tiny little feet, and holding your chubby little cheeks.
Every time I look at you, my heart fills with joy. You may only be a few days old, but you already have my heart. Even before I was carrying you in my womb, I knew I was destined to be a mommy, and now that you are here, it feels right.
Having you in my arms makes me feel like I can move mountains if I need to, if that’s what I have to do to be the best mommy I can be.
I promise to try to keep you safe. I promise to always do my best. I promise to give my mommy all, always.
Please forgive me when I am not at my best. I will always try to make you smile.
When you cry, I will be there to wipe your tears away. I will be there to cuddle with you when you feel scared. I will be there to take care of you when you get sick. I will be there to read you bedtime stories when daddy has to work, because when daddy is home, he tells the best bedtime stories ever, and you won’t want mommy to read to you on those nights.
I will be there to watch you take your first steps. I will be there to hear you speak your first words. I will be there to take you to your first day of school.
When it is time for you to go off to college, I will be there to wave goodbye. Even when we are not together, my heart will always be with you.
There will be times when our emotions get the best of us, and we argue. One day we may fight over the clothes you want to wear, or why you can’t eat candy breakfast.
There will be days filled with anger, with frustration, with sadness, and with despair. But today there are no arguments. There are no words. There are no sounds except your little beating heart against mine while you sleep in my loving arms.
And that’s all we need right now. No matter what our future holds together as a family or what mistakes we make along the way, your daddy and I’s love for you is stronger than anything ever known.

P.S. Your Daddy feels the same way I do, minus the carrying you around in his womb part. It’s a long story. We’ll get into all the adult stuff down the road. For now, let’s just be one big happy family and enjoy our quality time together.
