Port Aransas(Port A) is a small, fun, beach town/island along the Texas coastline, that’s about 4 hours away from where we live in Austin. My wife and I have always loved going and spending time there.
One of our favorite dating memories was when I asked Malia if she would go on a date with me, but she had to agree to whatever kind of date it was in advance, without knowing the details first.
Malia agreed to go on the date with me, but something tells me that she got a little bit nervous when 3 hours into the date we were still driving.
My date plan was to drive to Port A, rent a hotel room, and stay there for the night. Well, it’s funny how things work out. While we were driving on the beach, on this area that it’s okay to drive on, it started getting dark, and I missed the sign that said “Road Ends Here”. The road might have ended there officially, but you can keep driving right along if you miss the sign.
We ended up getting stuck, sleeping on the beach, and having the most romantic, moonlit night imaginable. She thought my plan was to act like we got stuck so that we could fool around, but the truth is, we were really stuck.
She told me she was flattered that I would go to all of this trouble, just to be alone with her. When I pulled out my cell phone to call AAA, she said- “Oh no, your cell phone doesn’t work. That’s terrible.” I said, my cell phone works just fine. What are you talking about? She said- “No it doesn’t. Why don’t you check it again.”
As it turns out, my cell phone wasn’t working, regardless if it actually was or not. Today we closed on the house that we got stuck in front of on that magical romantic night at the beach, so that we could own the moment forever.
This summer, and many future summers, we plan to spend at the beach, in our new summer home. It will be great watching our kids grow up, and making amazing memories here.
I love you with my whole heart Malia May Johnson!
