We live by and are members of Bethesda Country Club. Every year Bethesda Country Club (BCC) has an awards banquet to celebrate/honor members who stand out in various ways/accomplish certain things.
One of the yearly awards is “Father of the Year”. I nominated MJ for Father of the Year last year, and so did several other members. MJ ended up winning Father of the Year last year.
This year I didn’t nominate MJ, not because he didn’t deserve to be nominated, but because he won last year. I figured the club would pick a different Father of the Year this year, since MJ won it last year.
This year they got MJ’s middle name right. Last year on the award “MJ The Terrible” was listed as MJ’s middle name. This year they got it right (Michael David Johnson).
After they announced who the Father of the Year was, MJ said- “I won again? Back 2 back baby! Yeah!”
When MJ was up on stage accepting the award, he asked that I come up there, so I did. While I was up there, he said that he wouldn’t be a Father without me, and he wouldn’t be Father of the Year without my help and thanked me for all that I do. I thought that was nice of him.
While we were both on stage, the moderator for the night made the announcement that next year there would be a Mother of the Year award category. MJ whispered to me in a joking way- “Awesome! It will officially be the year 1955 at Bethesda Country Club next year.”
On the way back to our table I asked MJ if he did that because he was trying to get laid. He said- “Absolutely! Did it work?” I said- Wait to see, but I think your chances are very good Mr. Johnson. (It worked, but it was a quickie because we were both exhausted.)
Bethesda Country Club is an old money country club. The awards night used to be a men only night. In recent years it has become more of a couple’s night. I have never felt disrespected at the club. It is an old school patriarchal old money club, but it is also a very family friendly club. MJ said if he can win it 2 years in a row, then I am for sure going to win Mother of the Year every year we’re members.
When we told our kids Daddy won Father of the Year the next morning, they gave Daddy a big hug. At our daughter Liz’s play group later in the afternoon, she told her friends that her Daddy got an award for “Being the Best Daddy Daddy.” It was cute.
MJ is a wonderful father. I am glad he won again this year. I think last year because I was the first person to nominate him and one of the other fathers who was nominated died before the awards banquet, it made MJ feel like his Father of the Year award was somewhat tainted. I told him this year there is no asterisk by his name. He won it free and clear. He was happy.
It was a double win for MJ yesterday. He finalized the deal for Masters of Money to buy A.I.U. Incorporated, and he won Father of the Year.
Will there be a 3 peat? Will MJ win again next year? It will be interesting to see. Whether he wins again next year or not, I know MJ will put his all into being the best father that he can be.
