Yesterday I was watching a movie called John Q, starring Denzel Washington, with my friend Chris.
Chris asked me if I would take my own life, if necessary, in order to give my heart to one of my kids, so that they could live, if their heart was failing like the little boys was in the movie.
My friend Chris: Dude, would you John Q it for one of your kids?
Me: I would do anything for my kids. I would like to think that I wouldn’t try to hold a hospital hostage like he did, but would I take my own life, so that one of my kids could have my heart and live They have always had my heart anyway, so yes.
My friend Chris: You are a good dad. I really think you would do it. God that is morbid.
Me: I know, right? But I definitely would give them my heart. I’m not just saying that. What about you? Would you do it?
My friend Chris: I don’t have any children of my own, but yeah. Probably.
Me: Wouldn’t any parent give their heart to their kid, all things being equal?
My friend Chris: I googled the movie and found a pole they did when the movie was coming out, where they asked real parents if they would give their heart to their kids. 62 percent said yes. 38% said no.
Final note: I don’t know what anyone reading this would decide to do, but I hope and pray that none of you/us, ever have to make that decision.
To my 5 children- No matter how good or bad things are in my life, I will always be your daddy, I will always try to be the best daddy that I know how to be, and I will always love you with my whole heart, whether it is in my body, or yours(Ha! Ha!).
