Question #1: When you say you are a copywriter, you write copy, what is that? Doesn’t a copywriter protect intellectual property? Jenna Archer Nacogdoches, TX
Answer: Copywriting (writing copy), is primarily used for the purpose of advertising or marketing. This type of written/online content material, is often used to educate/persuade a person or group of people to want to learn more about something, and/or take additional action. The goal of a copywriter is to create powerful content that the reader finds valuable, and makes them want to take the recommended action that the copy suggests.
Question #2: Could you please describe what you meant when you said you wish you had multiple personality disorder at the marketing panel discussion that you did at the University of Texas in March? Ashley Gamble Dallas, TX
Answer: Sure, I’d be happy to. I was talking about how a writer was given a compliment by his boss on how he could write about anyone or anything, so the writer must have a multiple personality disorder. The writer then says thank you, like it was a compliment to have multiple personality disorder.
As a marketer, copywriter, ghostwriter, author, script writer, actor/actress, or a similar profession, you have to be able to put yourself in the shoes of your character, your audience, or your target market. In order to do that successfully, you have to study, understand, and then effectively deliver your performance or message. If you don’t throw yourself into it, you won’t be seen as credible, and you won’t be successful.
Question #3: If you had one quick tip on how to be successful, that would be great. Thanks. Terrance Simmons Yonkers, NY
Answer: Focus. There are so many distractions in this world that pull us away from what we need to do, to get where we want to go/be. So…..keep your eyes on the prize, and go get it!
